It Only Targets The Gray

Kill Three Books

I have read in recent times a couple of books of philosophy which I found very informative and accessible. Many people, and more at these times, believes that philosophy is an eccentricity, if not a waste of time. Well, I'm used to this kind of argument. And I do not bother to discuss it, when someone tells me that the Latin, Greek, philosophy ..... are worthless, I agree with you. As me is showing, among other things, few cultural interests and unique concerns about the practicality, what I'm going to escornar, bitter, etc ...? Of course with my teenage self that I discuss these issues and reasoned, though with little success .... But they, on the other hand, repeat what they hear adults ... Unamuno once said a very practicing engineer and that preparing to take a tram to go to a concert: "Tell me, friend: which of the two is more practical: the tram that takes you to the concert, or concert same? "

Al grain. The author of the books is Luc Ferry, former French Minister of Education and who is looking pretty right-wing feather duster when reviewing the history of philosophy .... Still (always in my personal opinion), it is worth read. The first is entitled Learning to Live
(sounds like self-help book): in the deeper currents that are more stoic and Christian, the most influential in antiquity and for fifteen centuries. The chapter on Christian philosophy will be worth it, with a completely eclectic and entertaining analysis on the reason for its success and expansion (in addition speaks exclusively of Christianity at any time of Catholicism ). The rest of the book addresses aspects of the philosophy of Rousseau, Kant, Descartes .... Nietzsche's analysis is pretty, if not excessively, in order ..... personal. It's okay to enter the world of critical thinking that is what is needed these days .....

The other book by the same author, is
The wisdom of the myths . Another review of Greek philosophy through mythology, saga as they come, full of lessons basically stoic. The truth is that never ceases to amaze me the similarity between Stoicism and Buddhism, so far apart geographically. By the way, I learned from this book that hope, feeling much acclaimed and praised by some, was totally negative for the Greeks. Was what was left in Pandora's box, after releasing the rest of the evils .... hope implies the absence of what is expected, involves not wait to live the present with the fullness due ....

The third title I've enjoyed these days is a scientific realism (well, two of lime and sand): The development of talent: how our origins determine our present e. Fabulous. If there is more to be recognizing the Atapuerca researchers are magnificent paintings informative. In this case Bermudez de Castro emphasizes socialization factor in explaining the evolution of human intelligence. But let us also clear all the behaviors that we are conditioned by our genes: one of them, speaking of territoriality refers to our desire to customize our workplace, from the bottom of the computer screen until the picture frames family .....
